Collaborative Metadata (COMET)

Collaborative Metadata (COMET) is a community-driven framework and initiative focused on developing practical workflows that allow anyone to improve persistent identifier (PID) metadata. Beginning its life as a FORCE11 working group and now supported by the CDL, its function is to design and implement transparent pathways for the entire research community to contribute to the quality and completeness of scholarly records.

Central to its model is the inclusion of clear provenance for community contributions to PID metadata and the establishment of shared benchmarks for ensuring quality, guaranteeing that all contributions are trustworthy and verifiable. By building actionable tools, COMET aims to move beyond siloed metadata creation to a sustainable ecosystem where the quality of scholarly metadata is collectively improved and maintained by the communities that rely upon it.
