Meet the UC3 Team

Marisa leads the developement team building innovative digital library services and open infrastructure. She focuses on fostering collaboration, supporting professional growth, and guiding projects that use cloud technologies, DevOps, and AI/ML to make research data and scholarly outputs more accessible and sustainable.

Maria focuses on building open, community-driven tools and services that strengthen research practices and make scholarship more transparent and reusable. Previously, she managed large-scale web archiving at the Internet Archive. She also serves on the Board of the International Council for Scientific and Technical Information (ICSTI) and is active in the Research Data Alliance and the FAIR+CARE Cultural Heritage Network.

Adam Buttrick is a librarian based in Los Angeles. Adam’s previous work includes both product and technical roles at Crossref, the Getty Conservation Institute, OCLC, and the University of Michigan Library.

Eric is Product Manager for CDL’s digital preservation initiatives, including the Merritt repository that preserves special collections content from libraries and affiliated organizations across all ten UC campuses, as well as eScholarship publications and electronic theses and dissertations. He engages with library staff and scholars from across the university to support and promote the preservation of UC’s invaluable archives and cultural heritage materials. At the same time, he collaborates with members of the larger community to advance best practices and share knowledge surrounding key policy-based and technological aspects inherent to the field of digital preservation.

Becky manages the DMP Tool, a free, open-source platform that helps researchers create data management plans (DMPs) for grant applications. Her team is rebuilding the tool to add machine-actionable features, including AI-assisted DMP drafting, integration with campus research systems, and stronger connections to the scholarly ecosystem. Becky earned her PhD in social psychology from UC Irvine and previously worked in user experience research and product management in the video game industry.

Terry serves as the Technical Lead for the Merritt digital preservation repository, with a focus on modernizing the service around the themes of transparency, simplicity, and scalability. He has led the Merritt team in simplifying cloud-based build and deployment, improving visibility into workflows, and transforming Merritt’s overall architecture and infrastructure. Terry enjoys the challenge of presenting complex information into clear, actionable formats, actively promotes knowledge sharing, and collaborating across CDL.

Scott is a full-stack developer with specialties in user interface design, the social aspects of information technology, and search and retrieval. He has also served as Technical Lead for several UC3 services, including the DMPTool, Dryad, the Web Archiving Service, and AI/ML-based data curation tools.

Ashley’s contributions have been transformative since joining UC3 in 2020. She embraces infrastructure as code to achieve continuous integration in our agile development environments, introducing and influencing best-practice methodologies across our services that are developed, tested and hosted on 80+ servers in the AWS cloud. Ashley embodies an inclusive environment, sharing her ideas and knowledge with both technical and non-technical team members.

Jing is the Technical Lead for UC3’s Identifier Services, where she guides the development of reliable, community-focused tools for persistent identifiers. She combines expertise in application and API development with a deep understanding of library standards and workflows, and is especially skilled at in-depth analysis that drives optimization and high-performing services. Jing is also expanding her knowledge of containers and infrastructure as code to strengthen UC3’s services.

David is the lead developer for the storage and inventory services of the Merritt digital preservation repository.

Mark is the lead developer for the Ingest service of the Merritt digital preservation repository.  Mark supports our DevOps practices and operations as well as integrations with CDL services that deposit content into Merritt.

Brian serves as the Technical Lead for the DMPTool, with a focus on back-end components. He has led the UC3 development team in migrating services to cloud environments, adopting infrastructure-as-code practices and serverless architecture. Brian also represents UC3 in the Research Data Alliance, contributing to the development of the DMP Common Standard API for service providers.

Juliet serves as the domain expert for the front-end stack of the DMPTool service, providing guidance on frameworks, design patterns, and implementation best practices.  She is always eager to learn more and is broadening her knowledge of cloud services and AI/ML tools to support the work on machine-actionable DMPs.
