UC3 and Data Skills Training

At UC3, we believe that high-quality, reusable research data starts with good data practices. That’s why training and capacity-building are central to our approach. We work to empower researchers, librarians, and data stewards with the knowledge and skills they need to support FAIR data.

Our long-standing partnership with The Carpentries exemplifies this commitment. Since 2017, UC3 has played a leading role in growing the Library Carpentry movement, expanding curriculum, hosting instructor training, and contributing to governance and community development. These workshops equip participants with hands-on skills in coding, data organization, and metadata standards, helping institutions build local expertise and sustainable training programs.

In collaboration with initiatives like the Generalist Repository Ecosystem Initiative (GREI), we’re adapting Carpentries content to meet evolving repository needs and piloting new training modules for data publishing. By integrating lessons learned into national and international frameworks, UC3 ensures that training remains responsive, scalable, and aligned with real-world challenges.
